Going to the library is not something I really enjoy doing. Now the library in the town where I live isn’t that exciting to go to. It’s not that I don’t like reading but why read in a boring library if you can read a good book at home on the couch under a blanket? If the library in my town looked like the ones in the book of photographer Massimo Listri I wouldn’t mind going at all.
The Italian photographer spent decades traveling and documenting beautiful historic libraries all around the world. His new book The World’s Most Beautiful Libraries contains 560 pages full of spectacular libraries and their history. Imagine how long these buildings have been here and how much stories and knowledge they carry. I’d love to spend a day in one of these libraries.
I wonder what reading will look like in the future. Will the new generations still go to libraries, or even read books at all? Or will everyone just read their e-books and look everything up online if they need information? Our world is becoming more digital, but does this mean we don’t need beautiful libraries like these anymore?
